Project Officer – Livelihood (1 position)

Uganda Community Based Association for Women and Children Welfare (UCOBAC) is a non-government organization in Uganda whose mission is to promote human rights and improve welfare of women and children in Uganda using community-based initiatives. UCOBAC envisions empowered communities free of poverty and able to exercise human rights and fundamental freedoms.
UCOBAC is seeking a professional and passionate livelihoods officer to join our team. As a project officer-livelihoods, you will be responsible for end-to-end implementation of livelihood initiatives, ensuring high standards and timely delivery. This role involves working and building capacities of selected households and communities to take charge of their development. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance in agronomy, promoting modern farming techniques, and supporting enterprise development following the Participatory Integrated Planning approach.
This position requires strong coordination, communication, and technical skills to drive sustainable development and positive mindset change in the community.

About LIFT
The LIFT project aims at promoting locally led, climate resilient and inclusive livelihoods for host and refugee communities in Lamwo district. This project will be implemented under a consortium of three organisations. Under this partnership, UCOBAC will support refugees and host communities, with resilient livelihoods, secure access ownership and use of land to process their trauma and start a new life.

By building local capacity and ownership of activities, the project seeks to support households, local organisations, and communities to take informed decisions, which consider the needs of vulnerable people, particularly empowering women, youth, and persons with disability.

Key Responsibilities:
Project implementation and sustainability
⦁ Develop monthly project activity plans, organize and lead capacity building trainings for selected project participants.
⦁ Take overall lead in the coordination of field level activities.
⦁ Provide technical expertise in enterprise development, agronomy, climate smart agriculture and use of modern farming practices.
⦁ Identify and promote local innovations and practices for climate change action through establishment of learning sites in communities.
⦁ Promote the PIP approach to enhance mindset change and positive behavior in the communities and among target households.
⦁ Provide mentorship and coaching to the PIP innovators for sustainable livelihoods.
⦁ Coordinate partners and communities in implementation of agreed action plans.
⦁ Conduct periodic assessment of the technical capacity needs and challenges and regularly update the capacity building plan.
⦁ Ensure core project models and approaches are implemented according to schedule and minimum standards.
⦁ Ensure integration of the PIP innovators with other resilience and livelihood on going activities including that of partners and government.
Documentation, reporting and knowledge management
⦁ Writes and submits comprehensive monthly progress reports, and specific activity reports, and any other reports when necessary to his/her supervisor on a timely basis.
⦁ Take lead in documentation and sharing of impact/success stories and best practices to promote learning.
Rights of marginalized groups
⦁ Ensure the full and equal participation and benefits of women, youth, elderly and persons with disability in the project interventions.
⦁ Work with local leaders and project participants to protect children from any form of project related abuse.
⦁ Respect and advocate for the protection of rights of women and girls.
Minimum requirements
⦁ Applicants should be Ugandans with a professional qualification in agriculture, agriculture rural innovation or any related field from a recognized institution.
⦁ Good command of English and fluent in Acholi. Fluency in Arabic, Dinka or Nuer is an added advantage.
⦁ The applicant should know how to ride a motorbike and possess a valid rider’s permit.
⦁ Proven Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and computer proficiency.
⦁ Proven hands-on experience in livelihood programming and executing community tailored livelihood plans.
⦁ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
⦁ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
⦁ Strong organizational and project management skills.
