UCOBAC in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) – Uganda organized an urban thinkers’ dialogue at Hotel Africana in Kampala on 13th April 2017. The dialogue entitled, “The City We Need”- Pro poor and gender responsive urban land governance for equitable access to land and housing in cities aimed to contribute to the localization of the New Urban Agenda which was a result of the Habitat III cities conference held in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016.
The thematic areas of the dialogue were: - (i) Security if tenure and adequate housing for all – focusing on the critical issue of “leave no one behind”. (ii) Responsible land governance and (iii) Sustainable land use.
Participants from government and the civil society discussed strategies for positively embracing transformations that can and are resulting from urbanization. Urban land and housing challenges and existing frameworks and mechanisms for promoting pro-poor and gender responsive land and housing governance were discussed at length.
